Native Plants of Michigan

Mother Nature is at it again. Our hope was to start shipping 5-20, but now it is too hot and looks like it will continue for the next few days. Now we hope to start shipping on 5-27-24. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Welcome to Designs By Nature, LLC. We are a fully licensed greenhouse in Laingsburg Michigan, established in 1997 and grow only native plants of Michigan Genotypes.

Native plants

What are native plants?

They are plants that are indigenous to a given area in geologic time. This includes plants that have developed, occur naturally or existed for many years in an area.

Why is this important?

Native plants provide important food and habitat sources for native birds, bees and butterflies. They have adapted to Michigan’s climate. They thrive in Michigan’s weather, temperature ranges, rainfall and drought and so do not require fertilization and regular watering.

What is a Michigan genotype?

Established Michigan plants produce the seed to grow Michigan genotypes. They thrive in our environment, where the same plant that has established in another state or region may not do as well here.
